This week we went up to Cornell and faced the Big Red which, if you infer from the name of this blog, is also my nickname. We won the game improving to 7-0.
Personal Updates
I went into this game pretty confident because last year I felt that Cornell was the best game I played, and probably to this day it is still my best full college football game. I had a really good first half this past week and then had several plays in the second half that I wish I could have back, including one play that was especially bad. Whether I like it or not this is part of the game, and when I am playing 80 or so snaps per game, to have a few not go my way is to be expected. Usually, with football, it is rare for all 11 players to execute a play perfectly because there are so many variables involved in each play that usually all happen in a span of several seconds. However, oftentimes good enough will suffice because slowing someone down by a second can not be that different than a perfect block. Then there are times where you mess up a little bit and the whole play blows up. As my time left on the field continues to wane, I am trying to take advantage of all of the time that I get and make the most of it.
Books/Other
I have not made any progress on What Every Body is Saying, but I think I will be able to finish it this coming week with the long bus ride to and from Dartmouth. I have had some success this week with keeping up with my podcasts, but am similarly behind. I really only have three more weeks of football obligations so I am wondering how my consumption of podcasts and books will change. I am hoping that I will be able to sprinkle in some books for fun, but maybe that will have to wait until I finish my thesis.
Gratitude
I will go back this week to being thankful for my physical health. Although I get a bit banged up in every game, this past week I got a pretty nasty bruise that has been more of an annoyance than anything else. I am still very grateful that I did not mess up anything structurally or seriously injure myself because with such a violent game there are people every game who go down. I am hoping that I will be able to continue my lucky streak this week and be able to finish out these last three weeks strong.
